Dr. Pillow integrates clinical knowledge, experience, and performance psychology, to develop an individualized approach for each athlete or team request.

Services include:

  • Private individual performance counseling
  • Performance counseling is available through media format (e.g. Facetime, Skype)
  • Consultations for parents, coaches, captains, and other athletic staff
  • Available for presentations on numerous athletic topics:
    • Development of Mental Skills (Mental Toughness)
    • Managing Stress and Anxiety
    • Improving Focus and Attention
    • Improved Confidence/ Improved Performance 
    • Avoiding Underperformance (No more choking!)
    • Balancing Emotions during practice and competition
    • Utilize Mental Skills to faciliate recovery  following injury or other setbacks

Delivery model:

  • Differentiate between performance enhancement versus performance restoration
  • Identify whether concerns are fueled by interfering emotional, behavioral, relationship difficulties, or missing components of sport mental skills (mental toughness) necessary for success
  • Formulate a personal individualized treatment plan directed at helping the athlete reach optimal performance

Examples of treatment goals:

  • Improve performance through the learning and strengthening of specific sport mental and/or life skills
  • Gain insight into how to better enjoy one’s experience and participation in their sport or occupation
  • Develop preparatory skills necessary for optimal performance
  • Learn how to cope with adversity, injury and rehabilitation
  • Understand how to be a great teammate and build team cohesion
  • Strengthen focus and concentration
  • Regulate and recover from negative emotions during practice or competition
  • Understand the difference between mental health issues versus performance issues in the disruption of performance
  • Identify and treat issues that interfere with the application of knowledge, skills, and abilities within the sport context
